Royal Manhattan Evening Tour

About this tour

Our longest ride, and it only runs at night. Departures open at 8:30 PM, so all 125 minutes fall after dark: the park stretch is lamp-lit and close to empty, the Fifth Avenue stretch is at full glow. Nothing here is a compromise between day and night. The tour commits entirely to the second one, and everything it shows you is chosen on that basis.

Inside the park the carriage keeps to the main drives — Wollman Rink, The Mall, a pause at Bethesda Terrace, another at Bow Bridge, then Strawberry Fields. It leaves by the Plaza Hotel and turns down Fifth Avenue past Saint Thomas Church, pauses again at Saint Patrick's Cathedral and at Rockefeller Center, rolls by Radio City Music Hall, and comes back to the stand at 7th Avenue and Central Park South. Two hours is long enough that somewhere around Bow Bridge the ride stops feeling like sightseeing and starts feeling like an evening out, which is why couples book it for occasions rather than for itineraries. Regular tours run January 10 through November 20; between November 21 and January 9 they pause and the Christmas tours run in their place.

Pricing

$414.99 for the carriage, on any night it runs — no weekend rate, no late-hour premium. The carriage holds up to 4 adults, or with children 12 and under: 3 adults and 2 children, 2 adults and 4 children, or 1 adult and 6 children. One fare, one carriage, however many of you there are.

Who this tour is for

Anniversaries, engagements, and the nights you already know you want to remember; couples who would rather have two quiet hours than one busy one; anyone who photographs cities after dark. Skip it if you want the park's greenery and long views — you will not see them. Skip it too if you are travelling with children who will not last until half past ten, or if you have somewhere to be afterwards: with an 8:30 PM departure the earliest you are back at the stand is around 10:35 PM.
